My Pink and Green Heaven

This quilt is made using a design from Quilters Cache called My Blue Heaven.  I started a blue and yellow version in 2006 which was finished last year.  The new quilt took 4 months, so that's an improvement :)

I asked Karen to choose a quilting design - love it

The backing is from my stash - used the floral green/pink for the binding.

A friend on Instagram said my Pineapple Quilt looks like Pineapple Sherbet, so that's what I'll call it - anyway, the quilt top is finished and ready to send to Karen once the backing arrives and Karen is home from her trip.

More Cutting Out

At long last the weather cooled down enough last week so I could iron the Snippets blocks - they are ready to sew together one day.  Spent a bit of time cutting out the Takes the Cake strips into 2-1/2" squares (1800 of them).

I'm looking forward to making up a couple of the Takes the Cake blocks to try out the black crossweave for the background in this quilt - something completely out there for me.

So glad I have the pink cutting mat - much easier to use than the dark green for black fabrics.

I picked up Scrappy Churndash and My Pink and Green Heaven from Karen on Friday afternoon - that was a scorcher of a day.  By Sunday the weather had cooled down enough for me to sew on some binding and stitch down Scrappy Churndash binding.  This quilt is now on the way to its new home.
 

 

The pineapples have multiplied - outer borders to go on (maybe) tonight and this is ready to go to Karen.

ChaCha had a two night sleepover on the weekend.  We went to a great basketball game on Saturday night and cheered the Hawks into the finals series.  Her first game - have to start 'em young (says her uncle).

Never Had a Friend Like Me!

Saturday was a great day!  Mum, Elizabeth, Lynell, Robyn and I went to Sydney to meet up with Jenni and Kurt to see "Aladdin".  Before the show Michael and Gulliver came into the city to have lunch with us in a very interesting Japanese restaurant - I've never seen so many private karaoke rooms before.

OMG!  "Aladdin" is the most spectacular show I've ever seen.  Everything about it is just sensational.  The sets and costumes blew my mind and the performances were just fabulous.  No words can describe the Genie - an extraordinary tour de force.

During last week I finished off the "My Pink and Green Heaven" blocks.  These have been put away for a while so I can work on another couple of things.

One is a special custom order quilt that I'll be making over the next few weeks.  Cutting out and trimming are finished
 

and one block is made.

The other is a secret project that I hope to have finished over next weekend. 

I have a drilling issue to work out before it can be put together.

I love the mandala fabric - I've been saving it for a few years for this project.

Lots of Trimming

Last Monday was the first day back at work after the Christmas break.  It was a long week but ended with a nail-biter of a basketball game.  How the Hawks held their cool to win was fantastic.  I also went to see "La La Land" during the week - it's a really good movie but I didn't love it as much as I was hoping to.

There was so much trimming to be done on the Snippets blocks - I brought some in to work to do at lunchtime for a couple of days.

Finally all done by Thursday (448 blocks)

Snippets is packed away for a little while - I have a few other things I want to work on just now - some birthday presents for my sweethearts

I came across a pile of blocks for My Pink and Green Heaven that needed trimming - so brought them to work to do this week.  This quilt will be one my 2017 donation quilts.

 Over the weekend I put together the last of the Colorway blocks - these have also been put away for a while

Backing for Medley has been made to add to the pile to go to Karen when she's back from holidays

and just for the heck of it, I've cut out another medallion quilt:  "Summerville" designed by Thimble Blossoms using Vintage Picnic fabrics designed by Bonnie and Camille.

ChaCha stayed over on Saturday night - she's such a delight - never still.  Loves to sing.  We visited some friends in the afternoon and had dinner at Mum's (GG).  Friends came over for dinner last night so that was a nice way to finish up the weekend.

Michael sent through some photos of Cheeky Chops Gulliver at the park.  Looking forward to seeing them next weekend.

Going to see "Aladdin" next Saturday afternoon - can't wait!

Cheerio

The blocks for Cheerio were cut out in January 2015 and they were all sewn together in July this year.  Sarah did the quilting and the quilt arrived back at my place on Tuesday, along with Starlight.  I made the binding on Tuesday night and just as I'd started to sew it to the quilt there was a total blackout for over 3 hours so I spent some time trimming the two quilts by candlelight.
 

Sewed the binding on yesterday morning before work and then stitched it down last night while catching up on some tv shows.

I love the modern loops quilting - it gives the quilt such a great texture without overwhelming the block design.

NSW had a long weekend last weekend - so good to have time to spend with the family (one little sweetheart had her first sleepover at Nanna's) and also time in my sewing room.

Over the last couple of weeks I've sewn two other quilt tops together, Spool Sampler and Swell.

They both need borders before they go to the quilter.

And I've started another two scrappy quilts hoping to use up more of the stash.

Another fun weekend coming up.  Basketball season starts tomorrow night, lunch with The Schoolgirls on Saturday and my little sweetheart is coming for another sleepover.
