Ohio Stars

Ohio Star blocks are all I seem to be sewing lately:

"Scrappy Stars" was made with 145 Ohio Star blocks

This cot quilt has 63 Ohio Star blocks

And now I'm making "Line Dried" designed by Coriander Quilts which has 95 Ohio Star blocks varying in size from 12-1/2" to 3-1/2" (no photos of the 3-1/2" stars yet).

Such a busy weekend moving furniture out of the sewing room and setting up that room as a bedroom for the little sweethearts.

Scrappy Stars

"Scrappy Stars" is another quilt designed by Camille Roskelley (ThimbleBlossoms) and is made using fabrics designed by Camille and her mother Bonnie.  I raided the scrap drawer for the stars and was able to use the scraps to make a large percentage of the stars.

 The quilt is pretty big at 86-1/2" square.

Karen quilted this one with Rainbow Hearts, my current favourite quilting design.

Orange orange-peel designed fabric for the backing and scrappy navy Bonnie and Camille fabrics for the binding.

When I was picking up "Scrappy Stars" from Karen, I mentioned I was heading home to cut out a cot quilt for a new baby boy.  Karen gave me these beautiful "Darling Little Dickens" fabrics she had left over from her own grandson's quilt. 

I added three Hatched and Patched soft blue fabrics to the mix and there was enough to make a version of "Bradley Street".  We had stitching at my place last night and Karen took the quilt top home to quilt - amazing when serendipity takes over.

Have been waking up very early lately so all the trimming is finished by my Bonnie and Camille version of "Snippets"

and one block has been made.  Karen and I have both made this quilt before using FigTree fabrics.

Sad day at home today - one of my huge gum trees is coming down.  Turns out it's over 40% dead and Council has given permission for it to be removed.  The remaining trees will be having all the dead wood removed.  It never stops at my place.

Finally, a photo Michael sent through of the cutest ever jumper model wearing a beanie GG made and a jumper Nanna made last year.  We had such a great day on Saturday.  I took ChaCha and Mum to Sydney and we met up with Michael and Gulli at an inflatable play area and Jenni and Kurt also came along.  The little ones played/ran for 3 hours.  We all then went to meet Peta when she finished work and we had dinner together in Redfern.  Top day.

Easter

The week leading up to Easter and Easter itself were busy but lots of fun and great times with the family and friends.

Early last week I finished sewing "Scrappy Stars" - it's a reasonably big quilt at ~87" square and there was a lot of cutting and sewing to make the scrappy stars.

I dropped the quilt off with Karen on Good Friday when we had our sewing day with Paula and Rhonda, making Cake Mix Recipe 4 quilts - the recipe papers help make very accurate half-square triangles using Layer Cakes (I'm using FigTree & Co "Mirabelle" with Minnick & Simpson's "Miss Scarlet" for the background).

Friday night ChaCha came to stay and after she went to bed I removed the papers while watching "Harrow" and "Silent Witness".

On Saturday ChaCha and I met up with Elizabeth and Matt at the Easter Fair in Towradgi - such a great event for little ones:  loads of rides.  Gosh it was hot.

Did a fair bit of cutting out over the weekend as well.

Easter Sunday was mostly preparing for the family lunch on Easter Monday and I also visited Karen to pick up the "Medley" quilt.  Easter Monday was so great - the little ones just love seeing each other and play so well together.  The Easter Bunny visited Primbee and left footprints all over the back yard.  It was The Best Day.

Weekend

The final Scrappy Stars block was made on 17 November last year (according to Instagram) and 17 rows of 10 blocks have been pinned together since then.  The blocks were sewn into the rows on Friday night.

Had such a fun day on Saturday with my little sweetheart:  breakfast in Redfern with Peta and Gulli; visited a couple of shops;  picnic in a park with Jenni and Kurt (Gulli rode his bike to the park and back); lots of playing and then he had a snooze in the car on the way to pick up Peta; pub dinner with Peta and Gulli and then home.

Yesterday morning I laid out the rest of the blocks and sewed a few rows before going out to visit Karen and Mum.

By early last night I had 1/3 of the quilt top together and, after rummaging through my box of Bonnie and Camille fabrics, found enough Vintage Picnic fabric to add two borders to the quilt top when it's together.  The pattern calls for a narrow plain white border - I think these two will look nice and it's good to use up the stash.

Another four rows were added after the photo was taken and I hope to add a few more tonight.  Would be great if this quilt top is together in time to give to Karen when I see her on Friday.  Looking forward to our sewing day.  The Stitching Girls are starting a quilt each using Moda "Cake Mix Recipe" Book No 4.

Peta gave me a beautiful bunch of flowers on Saturday.  The other lilies are starting to open.

Handmade with Love

Picked up "Handmade with Love" quilt from Karen on Wednesday night.  I haven't made a Christmas quilt for many years and this one was super quick to make with all the large pieces.

I love the "Rainbow Hearts" quilting design.  Will definitely use this one again.  The backing is one of my favourite Bonnie and Camille prints from their "Handmade" range - Karen has this for sale.

I took these photos of the quilt on Saturday morning - notice there are no bedside lights.

My dear friend, Lynell, turned up on Sunday morning as we had planned to go shopping for the day, and she brought my new bedside lights with her.  Lynell has been making these for most of this year.  To say I am thrilled to bits is an understatement.

 

We bought the crystal bases in Sydney a few months ago.

So very happy now that my bedroom is finished.

Last week I finished trimming the last of the hourglass blocks that make up the Scrappy Star blocks

and all the Scrappy Stars are together.  There are a few extra so I can switch the colours around if necessary.  A 5" charm square goes between each star.

ChaCha's Christmas dress is also finished.

A bit more Christmas sewing/stitching/crocheting to get on with over the next weeks.

Had a great weekend - Mum and I visited Michael and Gulli on Saturday and then Lynell, Robyn and I went on our annual Christmas trek to IKEA.  We met up with our friend Wendy and, as usual, couldn't believe how quickly the time went by.  Lovely dinner in our favourite Thai restaurant in Sutherland and then tartufo and coffee in another restaurant.

Little Star

Christmas sewing has taken over The Pink Room for the last couple of weeks.  One Scrappy Star made last week.  Might make some more this week - 37 to go.

and Vintage Holiday 2 blocks.  I hope the sashing fabric arrives soon so Karen can quilt it.

Had such a great weekend.  Went to Sydney to Elizabeth, Matt and ChaCha, picked up Michael and Gulliver and we spent the day at Coogee Beach and the nearby park.  The little ones love to play together and are always so excited to see each other.

Sunday afternoon I made ChaCha's Christmas dress from another pattern I've had since about 1981.

Michael, Peta and Gulliver spent Sunday at Newtown Fair - looks like Gulli really enjoyed his icecream.
