Summertime

Another quilt from the October 2022 cutting marathon, is "Summertime", designed by Susan Ache and made in Fig Tree's "Stitched" fabric.

I started sewing some blocks in July 2023.

I asked Karen to use "Clamshells" for the quilting - I love it and haven't used it for ages.

At the time of preparing the backing, I also made the binding

but forgot about it when time came to sew on the binding, so now I have a red gingham binding in the drawer for another quilt one day :)

For Christmas 2022, I bought T a ticket to see "Beauty and the Beast" - we saw this on 14 July.  She loved it - a great day for making some happy memories.

Summertime

Sewed the binding on to the "Summertime" quilt last week.

Last Friday Karen quilted "Hey Day".

I picked it up yesterday and sewed on the binding.

The quilt is now on the pile of quilts to have the binding stitched down.

Stitched down the "Summertime" binding last night.

So happy with this quilt - love it.  "Summertime" was designed by Susan Ache (@yardgrl60 on Instagram) for American Patchwork and Quilting.  This is the second quilt I've made from the August issue.  I used FigTree & Co's "Coney Island" fabric for the quilt top and binding and Coriander Quilts' "Sundrops" fabric for the backing.

Karen quilted it with "Ginger Snaps".

Also made a "Swoon 16" block for the Aussie Bonnie and Camille October block swap.

All of the "O Happy Day" blocks have been made and are laid out on the spare bed ready to be sewn together.  Takes me ages to sort the blocks till I'm happy with how they all look together.

Had a great weekend:  visited Elizabeth, Matt and ChaCha after work on Friday to wish Elizabeth happy birthday.  Birthday lunch on Saturday with most of the family - very windy at the beach.  The little ones had such a terrific time with each other.  Mum, Lynell and I had delicious pizza for dinner before going to see "Ladies in Black" - FABULOUS movie.  I really love Australian movies - they tell stories of our lives so well.

Yesterday I did a few household jobs, sewed, shopped, visited Karen - so another good day.

Another Couple

Karen is back from her holiday, so I've dropped over a few quilt tops and have a couple more ready to take over this week.

"Apple Pie" Layer Cake quilt designed by FigTree & Co, in Bonnie and Camille's "Vintage Picnic" fabrics - I love the red in this range.

The backing is the "Vintage Picnic" little flower.

I finished putting "Summertime" together last night (designed by Susan Ache) - the border colours aren't quite right in the night-time photo.  The fabrics are "Coney Island" designed by FigTree & Co.

The backing for this quilt is "Sundrops" designed by Corey Yoder.

Had a lovely weekend starting with Friday night dinner with Karen, then celebrating Jenni's birthday over two days and Fathers' Day.

The quilt tops using Me and My Sister fabrics are done and waiting to be quilted (when Karen is home from her holiday).

The orange "Sugar Plums" blocks are all sewn together and ready for quilting.

The rest of the "Summertime" blocks have been made (plus a few extra to use up the rest of the fabric and make the quilt a bit larger).  Need to purchase setting triangle fabric then the quilt top can be sewn together.

"Snippets" pieces have been made for over 4 months and this week I've been sewing them into blocks.  I love the red spot background. Another 8 blocks to make (64 in total) then I can have a play with the layout.

New Starts

Lots of orange sewing last week to finish making "Sugar Plums" blocks.

Felt the need to work with some other colours so made a few "Summertime" blocks - I love these FigTree & Co "Coney Island" fabrics and decided to make the quilt larger so cut more fabrics.

I need a couple of smaller quilts to give away and have been inspired by some quilts I saw on Instagram:  "Checkerboard" designed by Lori Holt

My stash of Me and My Sister fabrics is perfect to use up in the fun designs.  I have one more design in mind using a charm pack of Me and My Sister's "Frolic" fabrics.

Weekend plans changed at the last minute and it turned out to be a fun weekend with little sweetheart staying over on Saturday night along with Jenni and Kurt, then Sunday lunch at a first birthday party followed by "Mama Mia" with Mum - I loved the movie (had tears streaming down my face from start to finish - I'm such a sook).  Great choreography and lots of fun. I'm looking forward to some Gulli-time on Friday.

Cutting Out

Karen and I had a day out in Sydney on Thursday.  She brought over the little blue cot quilt and the House Irish Chain quilt.

We visited a couple of patchwork shops and I stocked up on backings and a background fabric for some quilts I have planned.  Some other fabric arrived in the post that day too and there was some shopping from Karen's cupboard.

I've cut out a few quilts, so have a crateful of sewing ready to go.

"Summertime" designed by Susan Ache in FigTree's "Coney Island" fabric - I've had this jelly roll for a long time.  Love the colours.

"Star Drops" designed by The Pattern Basket - very scrappy FigTree fabrics with a pretty star fabric for the background.

Another "Nine Patch Waltz" in FigTree's "Mill House Inn" fabric will be started soon - not cut out just yet.  A couple of friends will be making this one too.

My FigTree crate is about half full, so the stash is diminishing.

On Saturday, Mum, Michael, Gulli and I visited Rozelle Markets - Jenni and Kurt had a stall there selling handmade earrings and woollen weavings.  Jenni's been very busy over the last few months.  A beautiful, sunny winter's day to be outside.

Yesterday was a day at home cooking and sewing plus a visit from Elizabeth, Matt and ChaCha.  I added borders to the Handmade Irish Chain quilt.  Was a bit disappointed that the design isn't printed exactly on the straight grain of the fabric but it all worked out ok.

The backing is sewn together - it's a pretty cross-stitch design from the Handmade range.

Will be working on Scrappy Crossroads this week - I have a couple more blocks sewn together

and stitching down bindings on the blue cot quilt and house/Irish chain quilt.

This cutie is 36 today!
