Low Volume Log Cabin Quilt

So happy with how this quilt turned out.  All the quilt top fabrics are from my stash.  "Low Volume" has been a trend over the last few years.  I've made a couple of quilts with low volume backgrounds but never a whole quilt till now.

Karen quilted this one too and the texture is lovely.

I love this very sweet fabric I used for the backing:  "Just Another Walk in the Woods" designed by Stacy Iest Hsu.  I have enough left to back the "Clambake" cot quilt I'm making at the moment.

New Year

Really enjoyed my couple of weeks' break from work.  Spent loads of time with the family and friends.  The Hawks were playing on New Year's Eve - an enjoyable way to see in the New Year with friends at the game, dinner at one of our favourite restaurants and fireworks at Wollongong Harbour; then we came back to my place to watch "Countdown" and the Sydney fireworks at midnight.

During the break I was able to finish off some quilt tops that have been taking way too long to do.

"Cakewalk" designed by Thimble Blossoms made in FigTree & Co fabrics.

"Nova" designed by Kim Brackett from her book 'Scrap Basket Sensations' made using a Batik layer cake and other batiks I had in my stash.

"Low Volume Log Cabin" - all stash fabrics.

 

I've been wanting to make Lori Holt's "Scrappy Crossroads" for ages and have been cutting out and collecting Bonnie and Camille charm squares.

I made one block using Moda Solid "Ruby Ice" for the background  - think I'll really like a quilt made up of these blocks.

Another quilt I started is called "Nine Patch Waltz" designed by FigTree & Co.  I love how this one is turning out - it's made using "Avalon", a very pretty FigTree range.

Half of the nine patches are made - the others will take a bit longer as they involve more sewing and trimming.

Mum and I went to see "The Greatest Showman" - we both loved it.  I'm hoping to see the new "Star Wars" movie soon.  Everyone else in the family has seen it and I need to catch up.

Easter Break

Easter this year was pretty much perfect - lots of time with the family and friends, such great weather along with a break from work, lots of cutting out and some sewing.

The Spiegeltent has been in Wollongong and I went along to see Paul Capsis, a fabulous cabaret artist, with Jenni, Paula and Tania.  Good Friday was spent at Karen's place for a sewing day with Karen, Paula and Rhonda.  I was working on a new secret project.  This is all I have to show for my day's efforts:  I am definitely not a fan of foundation piecing but will persevere with this one (maybe in June).

Afterwards, I went to see "Their Finest" - such a wonderful movie.  I took Mum to see it on Monday and she thought the movie was so authentic, having lived through The Blitz in UK during WWII.

Saturday I picked up Gulliver for a sleepover at Nanna's - we had lunch with Jenni and Kurt The Favourite and a visit/play with ChaCha on the way home.  Easter Sunday all the family came for lunch - was so lovely to have everyone together around the table and that night I went back to the Spiegeltent with Lynell, Robyn and Paula to see "Velvet", a fabulous show - the best part was the hula hoop guy.  So entertaining.

Easter Monday was spent in the sewing room - I had cut out a jelly roll quilt called "Zen and the Jelly Roll" - very quick to piece.

The whole quilt top was together by Tuesday morning.

Wednesday was another trip to Sydney and a quick visit with my sweethearts and on Thursday my girls came to visit.  Friday night ChaCha came for a sleepover.

It's great to be using up so much of the stash and loads from my scrap drawers.
