Finished Quilt Top

Tuesday night I finished sewing the Scrappy Churndash blocks together - this will be a fairly large quilt.  Really happy with how it's turned out, especially as I was able to use up loads of scrappy Bonnie and Camille pieces.  I think it's an original design but I'm sure someone else has thought of making Churndash blocks like this before.

Last night I sewed some Starlight blocks into rows.  Think I'm going to love this quilt made in these pretty Bonnie and Camille "Hello Darling" fabrics.  I hope to finish making the rows tonight then I'll be having a few days away from the machine but I'll have my knitting and crochet with me.

Fun Weekend

Had such a lovely day on Saturday - Mum and I went to Sydney to spend the day with the our little sweethearts.  They are so lovely together and have such a lot of fun.  I dropped off a little rainbow vest for ChaCha.  I bought the wool when I was at quilt camp in Tasmania last November and started knitting it there.  The vest has been finished for ages - just needed some press-studs.  I thought it would be too big but it's just right for this winter because she's so tall.

All the Scrappy Churndash blocks are made

and the first four rows are together. Four more rows to sew together and add to the first four, then the top is done.

I've started a little cardigan for ChaCha - it's a different type of knit for me - top down and in one piece - a free pattern from Ravelry.

More spak-filling and sanding on Sunday afternoon - there might be painting later this week.

Cushion Covers

When making the first Piccadilly Circus quilt, there were lots of off-cuts from the strips used for the Dresden Plates, so I decided to sew them up in to smaller Dresden Plates to make some cusion covers - one Dresden Fans with Hello Darling fabric trim, two Dresden Plates with grey background and two Dresden Plates with white background.

The bedroom reno is moving along.  Electrical work was completed last week

and there was lots of sanding over the weekend with a little bit of painting to test out the colour.  Quotes have come in for the floor to be polished and a built-in wardrobe.

Found a lovely surprise in the garden this morning.

These have been in the garden for years and never flowered before.

Last night while watching tv, I started a crochet jacket for ChaCha.  I made the same jacket for Michael when he was a baby, so I've had the pattern for at least 34 years.

Almost the weekend - yahoo!

I Spy Star Wars

So pleased with this quilt. I've been collecting Star Wars fabrics for a few years and when The Force Awakens fabrics were released, I bought some for backing and binding then made a start on the quilt.  Sarah did the quilting and last night after work I sewed on the binding to stitch down while watching tv.

A couple of shows and the binding was finished.

Almost the weekend.  Friday night is my favourite time of the week.  Going to a trivia night tonight - a fundraiser as part of the local Stars of Wollongong Dance for Cancer.

My Blue Heaven

This quilt is probably the second oldest UFO in my sewing room.  It was started in 2006 as part of a friendship quilt with an on-line forum group.  About time it was finished and, I'm embarrassed to admit, there was about one hour's sewing needed and it was done.

The block design is from the Quilters Cache website - a great resource for blocks of all sizes.

Sewed down the binding last night while watching "The Voice".

This photo shows the true colours

I asked Karen to choose the quilting design and I love this one - "Tatting".

This quilt is going into the donations box, which will be sent off to WA later this month.

Star Wars "Modalove"

There were a few squares and pieces of fabric left over from the I Spy Star Wars quilt - enough to make a large Modalove block and add borders.  This is a great design that can be made into any size block from a mini-quilt to a full-size quilt depending on the size of the squares.  Sarah did the quilting on this and I stitched down the binding last night while watching tv.  Two more quilts to bind then I'll be up-to-date for a while.

A little bit of machine sewing yesterday afternoon - a few Starlight half hexagons. I'm going to drive myself nuts trying to have no two fabrics the same in a whole hexagon.  Think I'll have to give up on that.

Big weekend minding ChaCha for two nights - lots of fun time spent with both babies, my children and a visit with Mum.

Last week I delivered a cot quilt to a friend for her grandson due later this month.  The mother-to-be was very specific about where each fabric should be placed.  Karen quilted this one straight away for me too.

Batik Piccadilly Circus

Not quite three weeks ago I received a request for a custom-made quilt and today the finished quilt was sent off to the USA.  The customer had very specific requirements about colour and size, and she wanted the quilt made using the same pattern as one of the quilts I have for sale.  I had some of the fabrics in my stash and I was able to purchase the rest from my local fabric shop.

The quilt is for a wedding present and I was asked to embroider the bride and groom's names as well as the wedding date on the centre of the middle Dresden plate block.

Fortunately Karen was able to drop everything and do the quilting straight away - this saved loads of time and I finished stitching down the binding last night.

Time to get back to some of the other quilt tops in the WIP pile.  The Scrappy Churndash blocks are in various stages of assembly and are enjoyable to sew.

No progress on Starlight, Hopscotch or Scrappy Log Cabin for a while.

Bedroom reno progress:  quotes have been received for floor polishing, in-built wardrobe and electrical work.  Electrical work will be done next week.  No renovating for me this weekend - I'm spending the weekend with ChaCha and Gulliver.

Binding

If you can't find me, I'll probably be buried under a mountain of quilts and binding - not quite finished making binding yet.

I received a surprise package in the mail this week - Sarah returned my two Star Wars quilts

and Karen has been busy quilting a cot quilt I was asked to make for a friend

 "My Blue Heaven"

and the batik "Piccadilly Circus"

I saw this beautiful block on Instagram yesterday

and it's a great design to use up the hundreds of Fig Tree half-square triangles I sewed up months ago

But first they all need trimming

Another WIP to add to the list.

No sewing over the weekend - my mum, sister-in-law, niece, brother and I started work on my bedroom renovation.  Lots and lots of prep work before we can start painting.

I'm pretty excited about this.
