Spell it with Moda

A dear friend of mine, Karen, has bought herself a long-arm quilting machine.  I gave her a bagful of quilt tops, my roll of batting and a general idea about what sort of quilting designs I like.

This huge alphabet/numbers quilt, Spell it with Moda, was the first one quilted and I love the bubbles design.

The only fabric I needed to buy for this quilt was the backing fabric, which I also used for the binding - I'm pretty happy with the way the dots sit in the binding.  The pinwheels were made a few years ago for another (unfinished) quilt, so I was very happy to be able to use them.  The quilt has gone to a new home with my great nephew and niece.

I have another 7 or 8 quilts to bind - Karen quilted all the tops in about 2 weeks, before she went away on holidays.  Once my sewing room is a bit more sorted, I'll start sewing on some bindings.

Over the last couple of weeks I have been knitting for a couple of new babies, including this cute basketweave border for a tiny cardigan.

Hello Lynda,

What a lovely idea to incorporate two quilts into one. Love the quilting design Karen chose. Your great nephew and niece must be delighted to have the quilt. Good luck with the knitting, it looks lovely.
Have a great weekend.
Happy days.
Bev.

How wonderful to have your quilt tops finally quilted and ready for binding! The dots really do work well on the binding.

Your ABC quilt top looks great. Lucky Karen! And lucky you. I would love to have a friend with a quilt frame I could drop things off to, or experiment with myself. Where do you buy your rolls of batting from? I'm looking in to doing this myself as I don't get to a shop often being in the country, and it's so expensive to buy retail prices.
