Binding

After all of the quilting Karen has done over the last couple of weeks, I've been stitching down binding while catching up on recorded tv shows.

I had enough "Seaglass" strips left over to make a 17" sq cushion cover, which Karen kindly quilted in a smaller version of the design on the quilt.

On Saturday ChaCha came for a sleepover and brought an extra birthday present for me - a bundle of Allison Glass fabrics!  The colours are glorious.  I'm hoping to make Jen Kingwell's "Long Time Gone" quilt some time this year and these fabrics will be perfect in that quilt along with some other Allison Glass fabrics left over from Jenni's 30th birthday "Tessellation" quilt.

Karen quilted "Line Dried" this morning and sent through some photos.

Looking forward to picking it up tonight.  This quilt will have a wavy edge and bias stripe binding.

One of my dearest friends is going to be a first-time Nanna later this year.  I've been saving these fabrics for almost 10 years (for her) and am so happy to have sewn them into a cute quilt.

Cot Quilt

Yesterday I bought a new pattern:  "Apple Pie" designed by Fig Tree and Co.  Lately I've been very drawn to Irish Chain quilts.

Had a look through my Figgy box last night and found two similar charm packs (Strawberry Fields Revisited and HoneySweet) along with some Butterscotch and Roses coral fabric to use in place of the black Irish Chain blocks and taupe Strawberry Fields Revisited fabric for a border, so my quilt will be much scrappier than the original.

A few months ago I came across a cute design on Instagram and thought it would be lovely for a cot quilt.

The cot quilt was finished last night.  I've used a fair few pieces from my scrap draw and loads of other fabrics from my stash plus white with a tiny pink pin dot for the background and binding.  The backing is "Just Another Walk in the Woods" designed by Stacy Iest Hsu and Karen use pretty "Bowtique" for the quilting.

Another binding to start stitching down tonight.

Lots of Quilting

My friend Karen has been very busy over the last week or so working on my finished quilt tops.

Lots of binding to do over the next while - time to catch up on all the recorded tv shows.

"Line Dried" is together and ready to drop off for quilting.  Two borders have been added - narrow white with turquoise spots and wider turquoise butterfly print.

I'm looking forward to this one being quilted because I'm going to use my scallop/wave ruler on the outer border.

Had a fun day with Gulliver on Friday: Devonshire Tea, Play Doh etc,

then my friends and I went to see the new "Avengers" movie - not really my cup of tea but was happy enough to see it.  Watched The Wedding with Mum and pretty much spent all Sunday sewing to put together the little cot quilt and most of Line Dried.

2 Quilt Tops

Two quilts were started over the Easter break:  Cake Mix Recipe 4 made into star blocks

and "Seaglass" designed by Susan Ache from her book "Starting with Strips".  A great quilt to use up lots different fabrics.  They both have the same "Miss Scarlet" fabric by Minick and Simpson for the background.

I love how this has turned out and can't wait to see it quilted and take some daylight photos.

I've been thinking about making a quilt of house blocks for quite a while.  I have an overflowing box of red and blue fabrics and want to use them up.

This house pattern is a very slightly modified version of Thimble Blossoms' "Winterville" house and the chain block was designed by Fort Worth Fabric Studio.

Caught up on the Bonnie and Camille beehive blocks - this green block is from Thimble Blossoms' "Summer" pattern and is to be sent out in June.

This one is for my sampler quilt

I recently had a birthday and went out for dinner to a restaurant near Elizabeth and Matt's home.  Truffle Pecorino Cheese Wheel - it's the best.

The family went out for lunch on Saturday to "Sublime Point Cafe" - really like this place too.  Beautiful flowers from Peta and Michael

and a birthday present from Gulliver - he said "Happy Birthday Nanna - we can share!" as he was helping me rip open the parcel.

More family time and presents yesterday for Mother's Day - it's a good time of year.

Progress ...

43 x 3-1/2" (3" finished" Ohio Star blocks for Line Dried.

All the blocks laid out - now pinned in groups ready for stitching together.

The borders are on the pink and red Cakewalk quilt.  Once the backing arrives this can be quilted.

Last Good Friday we had a stitching day at Karen's sewing Cake Mix Recipe 4 sheets with a layer cake.

I decided to go with a star block design and was so happy with how quickly and accurately the half-square triangles go together.

The blocks are all made and ready to sew into a quilt top.

I've been watching many episodes of "West Wing" lately while sewing - started Series 7 last night and will, once again, be sad when it ends.

Mum has been looking for a few extra things to do, so I gave her the pieces of this jumper to sew together.  It should fit ChaCha in a year or two but she doesn't like wearing wool and has taken a dislike to buttons, so the jumper might be going to a different home.

Had a busy weekend - picked up ChaCha at lunchtime on Saturday, spent some time with Mum before heading back to my place.  The Stitching Girls came over yesterday afternoon and then Mum and I went to the hospital to visit Mum's newest great-grandson who was born on Thursday.  Another little sweetheart has joined the family.

Ohio Stars

Ohio Star blocks are all I seem to be sewing lately:

"Scrappy Stars" was made with 145 Ohio Star blocks

This cot quilt has 63 Ohio Star blocks

And now I'm making "Line Dried" designed by Coriander Quilts which has 95 Ohio Star blocks varying in size from 12-1/2" to 3-1/2" (no photos of the 3-1/2" stars yet).

12-1/2"

9-1/2"

6-1/2"

It will be nice to sew something different in the near future.

Such a busy weekend moving furniture out of the sewing room and setting up that room as a bedroom for the little sweethearts.
