More Girls

Went to stitching group last night at Paula's and finished off Gingham Girls block 9 - not keen on the two small hearts in the lower panel - think I'll add another couple of hearts to fill in the space.

A very smudgy iPhone photo
I don't have any other stitcheries traced at the moment so decided to start stitching Rosalie Quinlan's new BOM "Best Friends Forever".  While these are very pretty blocks and it is great to receive the design already printed on linen, I am disappointed that there is no paper pattern of the design provided - there is only a reduced-size sheet showing the stitches and thread colours used.  I'd rather pay a bit more and have a paper pattern sheet as well or pay less and trace the design myself.  I've heard that other designers are doing this as well.  I do my best to support Australian designers and retailers and am not happy with this new trend.

I agree with you Lynda - I notice that Natalie Bird is now including the paper pattern to trace in her patterns that have pre-printed fabric so good on Nat! If there is a choice of paper pattern to trace or a pre-printed on fabric pattern I will always buy the paper version and trace it myself.

i am another one that agrees with you both about the patterns.xx

good point Lynda!
I guess they prefer you just buy another pre print and not just reuse the traceable pattern.
your block looks gorgeous. Looks like you are on a roll.

I agree with you. I recall Anni Downs asking for input once about that very subject....fortunately she still includes the pattern. I photocopied one of Natalie's ages ago, just so I would have the pattern after I stitched it. Hope it's not a trend that catches on. Your projects are both looking good.

Yes I agree with the other commenters. I am working on Scandanavian Rose and that too came with pre-printed linen only. I don't think I'll make the whole quilt again but there are a few blocks I'd stitch again for smaller projects.

Glad to know I'm not the only one who thinks it's a bit of a swiz not getting a paper pattern from some designers. I mean... some of us (me) are prone to making false starts or faux pas and need to start over. I'm sticking with printed patterns thank you. Your Gingham Girls block is gorgeous... lovely fabrics.

I suppose designers are doing it so that the pattern doesn't get 'shared'. After all, we do tend to share patterns with one another to save a few dollars. But that's a dollar that the designer doesn't make. And speaking as a designer, dollars can be hard to come by (especially when you are like me, just starting out).

I love the work you've put into your stitchery. The colours are beautiful. Maybe a few more hearts wouldn't hurt, but it looks nice as it is too.
