Star Pop

"Star Pop" is a quilt designed by Emily Dennis (Quilty Love) - this is the first time I've made one of her designs which was well-written and easy to follow.  A friend sent me a f8 bundle and layer cake of "True Blue" (Zen Chic) and some blue/white fabrics were added from my stash.  The border design is based on Michelle McKillop's "Stripe Me Lucky" quilt border and was a great way to use up more of the fabrics.

I don't have any places to photograph large quilts when I don't want them on a bed.

The backing is a lovely toile wideback and the quality is beautiful.  Some wideback tend to be very open weave fabric.  The binding is Ruby Star Society "Speckled" (navy) and my friend will be stitching it down.

Karen used "Rodeo" for the quilting (chosen by my friend) and it looks lovely.

"Master Plan" is growing.  This quilt is slower to put together but enjoyable to make.  The length will be 8 full stars down the side and then I'd like to add a border but haven't decided on that yet.

Two more quilts are with Karen for quilting ("Joyful" and "Sampler Spree") and a secret sewing quilt is on the way to Sarah for quilting.

Had a fun/busy weekend with two different work farewells and basketball, Jenni/Kurt/Vinnie staying over for the weekend and little sweetheart Grandson H turning 3 on Saturday - he had such a great time at his party.  The garbage truck he received from his older cousins was a huge hit.  Two grandchildren came home with me for dinner and sweetheart T stayed over, so it was full house.  The best type of weekend.

Floral Bouquet

It's not often I make a second version of a quilt pattern but this is the third "Floral Bouquet" quilt I've made and the second in "Breakfast at Tiffany's" fabric.  The jelly roll had been in my stash for quite a while so I cut out the quilt pieces last September on National Jelly Roll Day and started sewing up them up.  I left off the borders this time.

The quilt was finished over the weekend while watching the Olympics Figure Skating.

I asked Karen to use "Flowers for Linda" on this quilt - the design looks pretty on these fabrics.

The binding is made up of all the leftover jelly roll pieces and looks very pretty around the edge of the quilt.

"Star Pop" is on the way back from Karen.  This quilt is for my friend Robyn and she will stitch down the binding.  Robyn chose "Rodeo" for the quilting design - it looks great.

I've been sewing up "Master Plan" the last few days.  This quilt requires the pieces being laid out row by row and I can't fit the whole width on my design sheet so I'm sewing it up in segments.  The original design has plain background - I like the low volume background (a nod to the Thimbles and Needles quilts I've been making lately).

Had a great day out yesterday - finally went to Sydney to see "Hamilton" and it definitely did not disappoint.  Everything about the show is wonderful.  Just made it in time - "Hamilton" finishes in Sydney on Sunday.  I'm taking my little Sweetheart to see "Mary Poppins" in June and I need to start looking at dates to see "Moulin Rouge" - I think that will be pretty "spectacular spectacular".

Loveliness Quilt

"Loveliness" is a very sweet quilt designed by Corey Yoder of Coriander Quilts.  I used all Bonnie and Camille fabrics for this quilt as there is a great assortment of colours available and all the ranges mix very well.

This is another quilt binding finished off watching the figure skating at the Olympics.

I asked Karen to choose the quilting design for this and she tried out a new design - "Fancy Hearts".  I love it and the texture is wonderful.  Will definitely keep this design in mind for future quilts.

Shine On Sampler

The "Shine On Sampler" blocks were made during a sew-along hosted by Bonnie and Camille last year and the blocks have been finished for a few months.  I'm on a bit of a finishing up kick at the moment and sewed the blocks together earlier last month.

Finished sewing down the binding the other night while watching the figure skating at the Olympics.

I sent the quilt to Karen for quilting - Modern Loops - it looks great.

The backing is a pretty floral from the "Shine On" range and the binding is from "Early Bird".

This was a fun quilt to make - lots of interesting blocks.

"Sampler Spree" quilt top is together and has been sent to Karen for quilting along with "Star Pop" and "Joyful".

The border colour is actually more rockmelon than gold but it's hard to photograph at night.

Had a fun time on Saturday spending the day with Jenni, Kurt and Vincent.  It's so wonderful seeing Jenni and Kurt receive so much joy from their little boy.  Hard to believe he's almost 1.

Catching Up

Before sewing up "Star Pop" I sewed up "Joyful" - a quilt deigned by Thimble Blossoms (Camille Roskelley).  This was cut out last October.

Lots of chain piecing making half square triangles and I was able to chain piece the blocks as well

The quilt top is now on the pile to go to Karen later this week.

I am now finally sewing "Sampler Spree" blocks together - these were finished over 6 months ago.  Took me ages to decide on a border colour - the border is actually a rockmelon colour but looks gold in the night-time photo.

Susan Ache is a very clever designer - this border is brilliant!

After this quilt top is together I think I have one more stack of blocks to sew up - "Sewcialites".

Soon I am going to cut out "Pretty Birds" designed by Elizabeth Hartman in these beautiful Alison Glass fabrics.  It's going to be so colourful and gorgeous.  Just need to decide on background fabric.

Last night I was fortunate to see the dress rehearsal of "9 to 5" at the Capitol Theatre in Sydney.  Very funny show.  Caroline O'Connor stopped the show with one note!  Casey Donovan was fantastic - her singing is brilliant and she performed the comedy so well.  All the ticket funds were donated to United Way which is affiliated with Dolly Parton's charity to provide a book each month to children aged 0-5 in Australia.

Eva Dress

I had just enough of this pink/navy check plisse fabric to make an Eva dress for Jenni - I would have preferred to add sleeves but there just wasn't enough fabric.  The fabric has been in my cupboard for years and was in a friend's cupboard for about 20 years before that :)  This is such a comfy design to wear.

Three quilts are back from Karen (Quilting on the Coast) and the binding has been attached ready for sewing down while watching the Olympics.

"Floral Bouquet" with "Flowers for Linda" quilting
"Loveliness" with "Fancy Hearts" quilting
"Shine On Sampler" with "Modern Twist" quilting

Two quilts have been cut out:

"Castle Gardens" designed by Sarah Fielke

in her "Enchanted" fabric range,

and "Star Pop" designed by Emily Dennis in Zen Chic's "True Blue" fabrics with some added from my stash.  "Star Pop" is all sewn up and ready to be sent to Karen for quilting.

I had loads of cut out fabric left over and decided to add a border rather than making more blocks.  The border design is based on the "Stripe Me Lucky" quilt pattern designed by Michelle McKillop.

The backing fabric is a lovely toile wideback.

Way behind in my blog posts.
