Blue and White

I've always loved bows and as soon as I saw this Thimble Blossoms pattern, I knew I'd be making it using "Nantucket Summer" and "Shoreline" light blues and low volumes.  There are so many pretty prints in these ranges.

The quilt top came together so well and I love the scallop border.

"Star Pop"in "Nantucket Summer" and "Shoreline" low volumes is together - this is the small throw size.

Current sewing is "Cakewalk" also in "Nantucket Summer" and "Shoreline" fabrics.

I might start sewing this together later today.

Yesterday my cousin, Stephanie, and I went to see "Titanique" - what a fun take on the movie.  The singing was exceptional.  We loved it.

A couple of quilts are on the way back from Karen:  "Shoreline" version of "Piece and Quilt" Sampler

and Thimble Blossoms' "Takes the Cake".

Last month on my birthday we had some family photos taken - it's been 20 years since the last time.  This photo is my children's favourite.  Right at the end, Steph, Jenni's friend and photographer, told us all to yell/scream.

More Cutting Out

Once again, my blogging is way behind.  Lots of sewing has been happening and a few quilt tops are finished - some have been quilted and some are waiting for backings to be made.

I've spent a fair bit of time cutting out and have a bagful of homemade "kits" ready to go.

Mainly I've been cutting up my blue and white stash of Thimble Blossoms' fabrics - "Nantucket Summer" and "Shoreline" as well as Tasha Noel's "Simply Country".

Vinnie's "Dinosaurs" quilt top is together and with Sarah (Patchworks Plus) for quilting.

Vinnie and I went shopping for the backing and he chose this fantastic fabric.  He also wants a shirt in this.

Star Pop

This is the second time I've made this quilt, designed by Emily Dennis of Quilty Love.  This pattern comes together very easily and has large blocks.

For the last quilt I asked Karen to choose a design - she chose Rodeo and I used it again for this quilt.  It looks lovely.

I'm not 100% keen on this shade of green but it works well with the various blues in the range.

"Fireworks" is quilted and I'm hoping to make a wavy edge on this quilt.

Thimbles and Needles asked me to test her latest design "Flicker the View" and I decided to make the baby size so that Mum can give it to her 13th great-grandchild due in two weeks or so.  I used 'Guess How Much I Love You' fabric and it's very sweet.

Waiting for some backing fabric to arrive and I can send it away for quilting.

Adding Borders

In between spending time with Jenni, Kurt and Vinnie, there has been some sewing - mainly adding borders to a couple of quilt tops.

25 Half-Square Triangle blocks all made from offcuts from Swoon and Dwell 2 with a few others added that I had been saving.

As the blocks end up at 8" finished, I added sashings and posts to make it a more usable-sized quilt.  The outer border is 4-1/2" and I might scallop the edge after it's quilted.

Added a white border to Sewcialites so I wouldn't have to worry about points when adding the binding.

Karen had a busy weekend.  Two quilts are in the post on the way back:  Star Pop in Nantucket Summer

and Swoon in a few different Bonnie and Camille ranges.  I made this during the Summer Swoon SAL.

Sewing up Starlets blocks at the moment, then I'll get to Fireworks and have another parcel of quilt tops to send to Karen.

I had a fun time with Vinnie and I hope he did too - very strange for him to be home with just Nanna.

Blueberry Kisses

Three nights of watching "The West Wing" episodes and the binding on this large quilt is stitched down.  "Blueberry Kisses" is 92-3/4" x 99-1/2"

I was very fortunate to receive a bagful of blue fabrics from Thimbles and Needles, the designer of this terrific pattern, and those fabrics were a great addition to my smallish blue stash.  That meant that there are no fabric repeats in the blue crosses.

I wasn't sure which quilting design to choose - Karen (Quilting on the Coast) suggested Wind and Waves and the curves look good against the straight lines of the blocks.

The backing is a lovely Jocelyn Proust fabric - I love her Australian flora and fauna designs.

"Star Pop" in "Nantucket Summer" is together.  I'm waiting for some fabric to arrive for backing for another small quilt, "Happy Stripes", then I'll send them both to Karen for quilting.

Mum and I went to see "Where the Crawdads Sing" on Sunday - Mum has read the book but I haven't so had no idea of the story.  I enjoyed the movie and Mum thought it was excellent.

Bathroom Refresh

Painters were at my house last week to paint the "new" room as well as the bathroom, laundry and 2nd toilet.

Previously those rooms were what I call "poison green"

and now are a very clinical-looking white.  I had a white wicker shelf-unit, clock frame and laundry hamper in the room but even with a new coat of white they looked yuk so I spray painted them midnight blue and they look much better.  Time to update the cupboard and drawer handles as well and download a new white clock face.

Tomorrow morning the floor polishing will start in the new room then the electrician can hang the new light fitting and replace power points/light switches etc, and I need to buy/install a blind and curtains.

Hoping to have time over the weekend to paint the laundry cupboard so that I can move everything back into the laundry from the family room.

and went home with Karen following her visit last week.

Last week's "Swoon" blocks

and last week's Fireworks blocks.

Two Swoon blocks and four Fireworks blocks to go - hopefully they will be made this week.

I also made the cot-sized version of "Happy Stripes" in Nantucket Summer low volumes - this was a very quick quilt to sew together.

and I've made a start on "Star Pop" also in Nantucket Summer fabric.  Because I'm using a variety of low volume and white-on-white Bonnie and Camille fabrics for the stars, I need to lay out the fabrics work out what goes where.
