Scrappy Simplicity

I finished off this quilt on Good Friday - another quilt top that had been lying around for a while.  The quilt is made from all the leftover Simplicity fabrics and off-cuts from the half-square triangles in that quilt - loads and loads of pinwheels.

I sent this top to Bec for quilting along with the Simplicity medallion quilt and Bec has done a fabulous job.

Over the weekend I've spent some time tidying up the sewing room - not sure if it is a good idea as I found 3 quilt tops and a stack of cute machine-embroidered critters.  The cute critters are now in blocks and I'm working on the sashings.

This has been an excellent Easter.  Had dinner with friends last night - great company and excellent food (lamb roast dinner, Baileys chocolate mousse and bread and butter pudding).

Another One Bites the Dust

The binding is finished on Stepping Stones and the binding is being sewn down on Scrappy Simplicity. Still hot here at night so the fan is going.

The quilting on Scrappy Simplicity is lovely. Bec is having a lot of fun with her new toy.

So looking forward to Easter. Nothing planned but something fun will happen.

Another Top

While pottering around in the sewing room yesterday afternoon tracing some little stitcheries for pincushions, I came across Scrappy Simplicity.  All that needed to be done to finish off this quilt top was sew on two borders, which were already made.  So, I did that and the top is now finished.

I've darkened the last two photos a bit to enhance the pinwheels - the colours are so soft and pretty.  I'm finding it difficult to photograph them well.  I love this quilt top and am so happy with how it's turned out considering it came from a pile of little flying geese cut offs and a bagful of scraps.

One blog I love to read is Pretty by Hand.  I love how Kristyne expresses herself, what she makes and her great sense of fun.  Her last message is about the cost of quilting and, according to her philosophy, this quilt top has cost me nothing.  I agree.

Our Weekend

I thought I had finished this quilt top

and then I came across some more Simplicity fabrics - think I'll make another border of larger pinwheels to finish it off.  I have just enough of the bright pink stripe for binding.

Gosh it was cold here yesterday - the wind was very icy.  A bit better today.  Started work on Thursday and this temp assignment will last until the new permanent appointment is able to start (interviews will be held on Wednesday).  Some lovely people in the office and the work is interesting.

The weekend has been lovely so far:  a 21st birthday party on Friday night

Kirra, the birthday girl
With Dale and Jenni - thinking about doing the "Nutbush" - we did.

My friend Barbara, Kirra's Mum, and her other daughter Blair
followed by dinner last night at our friends' home - it's always a pleasure to see them.

Back to the reality of ironing etc before the working week starts :)

Sidetracked

After looking through a couple of my books ("Scrap Basket Sensations" etc) I got it into my head to go through my scrap drawers and cut the fabrics into 2-1/2" strips.  While doing that I came across a bagful of off-cuts from the Simplicity quilt top I finished putting together a little while ago.

There were a gazillion triangle pieces.  So, I spent a bit of time making pinwheels and half-square triangle blocks.

This is an evolving quilt top.  I'm trying to use up the left-over fabric and I like having the wide borders so show off the lovely floral.

I did a bit of necessary on-line shopping this week and the goodies have arrived.

I've noticed the hexagon purse on a few blogs and after seeing the beautiful finished purse on Marina's blog decided I needed the pattern and the bits to make one for myself.  The pattern book for Michael's new jumper also arrived (I'm not making the jumper on the cover).

My goodies from Sarah arrived today - so I'm one happy camper.

Don't have plans for any of this just yet but I'm sure it won't take me too long.

We're going to a 21st birthday party tonight and out for dinner with friends tomorrow night - we're such social butterflies these days :)  Happy weekend.
