Vintage Holiday 2

This is the second time I've made this quilt - the baubles are lots of fun to make.  I was able to buy some Bonnie and Camille "Vintage Holiday" fabric earlier this year from a friend having a destash and it was designed for this quilt.

Love this backing fabric - bows have always been a favourite and so is this Modern Loops quilting by Karen (Quilting on the Coast).

A Week on Leave

Week before last I sewed together the first four sections of "Boho Heart" - happy to be up-to-date with the sew-along at the moment.

Took a day's leave on the Friday to spend the day with Miss T and Gulli - she stayed over on Thursday night.  Always a fun day with those two.

Saturday week ago was John's 70th birthday and the family all had lunch together for the celebration.  Elizabeth organised a fabulous cake.

The university was closed last week, so I decided it was a good opportunity to finish of a long-standing UFO:  "Girls Day Out".  The quilt top has been finished/basted since 2015 but not quilted.

It is now all stitched in the ditch and the squares are cross-hatched.

On Instagram I came across another weekly sew-along - Riley Blake Block Challenge.  I'm using mostly FigTree's "Chantilly" fabrics - I don't have much of this range left so have added a few little pieces from my FigTree stash in co-ordinating colours.

Caught up on "Sewcialites" blocks - Earnest designed by Vanessa Christenson and

"Hope" designed by April Rosenthal.

Karen visited during the week and brought back "Handmade with Love" and "Vintage Holiday 2".  The bindings are attached.

Stitched down two bindings while watching a couple of movies with Mum yesterday afternoon and Mum took home "Girls Day Out" to sew down the binding.

Had a lovely week off - out for dinner two nights and lunch another day, basketball game on Saturday night, some sewing, time with the family.

Making Blocks

Seems like I've been making blocks for the last few days.  Most of my current sewing is for quilt-alongs or sew-alongs.  Now up-to-date with the Boho Heart blocks.

I bought some fabrics to use for the backing strips and found a few in my stash to add to the mix.  Started sewing Section 1 together yesterday - seems to take longer than making the blocks :)

Last week's "Sewcialites" block is called Courage and designed by Joanna Figueroa (FigTree and Co).

Caught up on the "Shine On Sampler" blocks for this month.

Month 5

Yesterday Karen posted this photo on Instagram - so pleased with how this quilt looks now it's quilted.

Had a busy, fun weekend.  Little Sweetheart T stayed over on Thursday night and then Gulli joined us on Friday - lots of playing and a visit to Sushi train for lunch and more playing at the local Time Out.  Basketball on Friday night - a very exciting game which The Hawks won.

Travelled to Sydney on Saturday with Lynell and Robyn where we met up with Wendy and we went to the "Monet and Friends", a light and colour exhibition of Impressionist Art.  So wonderful.

Spent most of Sunday in The Pink Room and then went to the basketball to watch The Hawks win another very close game - so enjoyable and then we all went for dinner.  Fun weekend.

Photos

One of Jenni and Kurt's close friends, Steph, is a photographer - she took their beautiful wedding photos.  Steph gave them a newborn photo package as a gift for little Vincent's birth.  The photos are stunning.

Last week's "Sewcialites" block was Steadfast designed by Sherri McConnell.

"Vintage Holiday 2" is together and will be quilted in a few weeks.

Last November I cut out another "Strawberry Social" quilt, using lots of reds from my stash.  The quilt top will be finished this week - the blocks come together quickly once the strawberry leaves are made.

A week or so ago I saw this quilt on Instagram and decided I have to make it - my original plan was to make it as a cot quilt for my cousin's daughter, who is having a baby in September (she loves pineapples) but the pineapple without the borders is too big for a cot quilt.

I decided to make a version as per the pattern first (the colour layout is a bit different) using some of my Alison Glass stash (I've had a buy a few more to mix in with these fabrics) before working out how to make it smaller.

On Friday morning I sewed the last of the "An Hourglass a Day" blocks and now each day I'll sew them into a nine patch blocks ready to sew into a quilt top.

Little Sweetheart

I met my tiny grandson last Wednesday and it was so lovely to spend so much time with him (and Mummy and Daddy) last week.  Little Vincent is beautiful and his Mummy and Daddy are going very well.

Handmade with Love is together - such a fantastic quick-to-make quilt top.

I finished the blocks for Vintage Holiday 2 last night and then noticed that I'd repeated one fabric for a bauble top/bottom.  That will be changed and then the quilt top can be sewn together.

Last week's Sewcialites block is Blessed designed by Vanessa Goertzen.

Karen, Quilting on the Coast, has been busy quilting some quilts for me.

"Niner" designed by Thimble Blossoms
"Double Hourglass" designed by Cluck Cluck Sew
"Stroll" designed by Thimble Blossoms
"Flower Girl" designed by Thimble Blossoms

These will be home next week and I'll be spending a fair bit of time watching tv and binding.  They will be the first quilts I've finished this year.
