26 August 2019

Month 5's "Summer Moon" blocks have taken ages to make.

I haven't cut out the August blocks (Month 6) - they look a little daunting.

In between socialising and spending some time on the baby's quilt over the weekend, I cut out a "Basket Case" quilt (designed by Cluck, Cluck, Sew)

and made two sample blocks.

Also started cutting out "Lemon Meringue" designed by Corey Yoder (Coriander Quilts) in Bonnie and Camille's "Early Bird" range.  I'll need to buy some more background fabric before I can start this one.  I'd also like to cut out "Shining Brightly", another Thimble Blossoms design, using "Early Bird".

Saturday was a busy day with the family coming over for lunch along with a couple of friends.  We had such a great time.  The Honeymooners brought presents from their trip to Europe - presents are always good.

Sunday was lunch with friends to celebrate a 94 year old's birthday.  Another lovely time.

Little Sweetheart is coming to stay for a few nights this week - she will be fun company for me.  We're going to see "The Lion King" tomorrow.

Back in The Pink Room

The final "Christmas Cheer" stocking arrived late last week so the two rows (Christmas stockings and Santa hats) can be sewn and put aside for when the rest of the rows are finished.

Haven't been doing much machine sewing over the last couple of weeks - I've been hand-stitching blocks for my grandson's quilt - only a few months behind with this quilt but have been making good headway.

Felt the need to do some machine sewing and made this month's "Summer Moon" blocks - so many teeny tiny pieces in the smallest Birds in the Air block.  I think I'm going to love this quilt once it's all finished.

I have a few piles of blocks ready to be sewn into quilt tops and I was home all day on Sunday so took the opportunity to start sewing "Nine Patch Waltz" together and the top was together last night.  I love this quilt in FigTree fabrics and also the light circles in this quilt design - secondary patterns are the best.  Borders are next - I have a few fabric choices.

Last week I saw "Rocketman" again - so fabulous and I probably loved it more the second time.  On Saturday afternoon Mum and I went to see "Yesterday".  It was written by Richard Curtis - I think he's such a great writer/director ("Four Weddings and A Funeral", "Vicar of Dibley", "Notting Hill", "Love Actually", "About Time", "The Boat That Rocked" and so many, many more).

No movies next weekend - family lunch with the Honeymooners before they leave for their European honeymoon next Monday.  Always a fun time when we're together.

Blocks and Trimming

Santa Hats and Christmas Stockings (plus two little surprise blocks) have been arriving this month - one more hat and two more stockings to come and I'll be able to sew these rows together for my "Christmas Cheer" quilt.

Some "Happy Scrappy Baskets" progress - there's lots and lots of trimming to make the blocks.  I'd trimmed about half and thought I'd make up some blocks then trim the rest.

So happy with the look of these baskets.

Sewed up Month 3 of "Summer Moon" - such teeny, tiny pieces in the little Bear Tracks block.

125 pinwheel blocks are trimmed and ready to be sewn into "Spinning Stars" blocks.  Have a few more sawtooth star blocks to make before the quilt top can be sewn together.  I was hoping to have no fabric repeats in this quilt but noticed I've used two of the white fabrics twice.  Whether I made replacements will depend on how energetic I feel when it comes time to sew the blocks.

Had an enjoyable weekend after a stressful week (car troubles).  Bought a new car on Saturday afternoon (picking it up next week), visited Mum then went to see a local production of "Into the Woods" - not my favourite musical (or style of music) but the cast was fabulous and so was the show.  I'm going to see Anthony Warlow in "Sweeny Todd" in three weeks, so "Into the Woods" was a good re-introduction into a Sondheim musical.

Yesterday did some sewing before picking up Mum to visit Michael, Peta and Gulliver - had a lovely visit with them - the "ball of energy" was in full flight.  Arrived home to find The Honeymooners at my place, so that was a lovely surprise.

Binding

A parcel from Sarah arrived earlier this week - two "Butterfly Patch" quilts.

Along with "Sylvia's Bridal Sampler" I will have loads of binding to keep me busy while catching up on some tv shows over the Easter weekend (in between wedding sewing and spending time with family and friends).

"Butterfly Patch" in Bonnie and Camille's Smitten fabric quilted in wavy lines:

and another "Butterfly Patch" in Bonnie and Camille's The Good Life also quilted with wavy lines:

Picked up my sewing machine on Tuesday and finished off the Flower Girl's dress - it's very sweet.

I've been making this month's "Summer Moon" blocks and need to catch up on this month's "Christmas Cheer" row.

Tomorrow is our annual sewing day with The Girls and I've cut out "Dashing" in FigTree & Co's new "Chantilly" range to start sewing.

So many pretty colours in this fabric range.

The family is coming for lunch on Sunday - looking forward to lots of fun with my sweethearts.

Another "Seaglass"

Bound my third "Seaglass" quilt on Tuesday night.

The first one was made as per Susan Ache's pattern in her book "Starts with Strips".

The second quilt was a variation on the original Susan posted on Instagram and was given away yesterday.

And the third is a lap-size quilt - started because I cut too many pieces for the Variation quilt :)

Saturday is Jenni's Bridal Shower and this photo came up in today's facebook memories of us getting ready for Peta's Bridal Shower 7 years ago.  Jenni is going to be a beautiful bride.

After almost 9 years making "Sylvia's Bridal Sampler", I will be picking it up from Karen tonight

and dropping off "All Wrapped Up" for quilting (which has been finished for a couple of months).  I have three quilts away being quilted by Sarah in Tasmania, so there will be more binding to do over the next weeks.

In between wedding sewing there has been some progress on "Nine Patch Waltz" blocks - lots of chain sewing and trimming with this quilt.  I think I'll make some "Summer Moon" blocks tonight.

"Summer Nights"

Picked up "Summer Nights" from Mum last night - Mum sewed the labels onto the back of the quilt for me - love being able to "subby out" some of the hand-stitching.

Absolutely tickled pink with "Summer Nights" - this was my choice for last year's Aussie Bonnie & Camille Beehive.  11 girls made a star block and I made the extra stars and the chain blocks.  The original versions are in navy/white and scrappy navy/white but, being me, I wanted a completely scrappy, colourful quilt and in a great mix of Bonnie and Camille fabric lines.

I asked Karen to use "Orange Peel" for the quilting - I love this design as it's non-directional and works so well with most quilts.  Using it a lot this year.

For the backing I used up large pieces of Bonnie and Camille fabrics (leftover backings) and more of the aqua cross-stitch fabric for the binding.

The labels are a late-arriving block and an "L" block one of the ladies very kindly made for me.

There was some more cutting out over the weekend - "Sweet Escape" a log cabin quilt designed by Thimble Blossoms with 1-1/2" strips.  Lots of different Bonnie and Camille ranges will be in this quilt.  The plain white is still to be cut.

Made one block and also started adding the cream corners to some "Nine Patch Waltz" blocks last night.

The remaining fabric parcels have arrived, so I will make backings tonight for The Good Life "Butterfly Patch", "All Wrapped Up" and "Go Four It" then they can go off for quilting along with the Smitten "Butterfly Patch".  Good thing I work full-time to pay for my hobby.

It's a new month so I can make some "Summer Moon" blocks and a row of "Christmas Cheer".

Four Patches Galore

All of the A blocks for "Go Four It - Rainbow Rows" have been made as well as many of the B blocks.

I ran out of four-patches, so some of this week's sewing has been making loads more four-patches.

Some more B blocks to make and then I can start assembling this quilt - it's going to be pretty big once it's all together but I'm thinking I'll make it rectangular rather than square as in the pattern.

A couple of weeks ago I made the first month's "Summer Moon" blocks.

Another Start

Carrie Nelson is one of my favourite designers - I love her style and way of designing/putting quilts together.  Carrie writes the Moda Fabrics blog posts and they are always entertaining and informative.  Carrie's new book has been on pre-order since last year and it arrived this week.  Being a big fan of both scrappy and sampler quilts, I am looking forward to making "Summer Moon".  The book is beautiful and the instructions are very easy to follow.

I've had a little stash of Anni Downs (Hatched and Patched) fabrics for quite a while and think the soft, gentle colours will look lovely in this quilt (even though most of them are Christmas fabrics).

The idea is to make the quilt over 10 months, with 3 blocks in 3 different sizes to be made each month.  Had to make one to see if I would like it and, of course, I've since made a couple more of the blocks.

"Seaglass" is ready for quilting.  I had cut out way too many strips for the "Seaglass" Variation quilt, so it made sense to make another quilt.

I love the teal spot fabric.
