Strawberry Social

Finished this fun quilt over the weekend - loved making this quilt.  I also made one last year but this one is a little different - I used only one green for the stems, leaves and border rather than scrappy greens.

The backing is a gorgeous Riley Blake strawberry fabric.

"Roundabout"is the quilting design Jenny, AngelCake Quilting. chose for the first Strawberry Social quilt and I asked her to use it again - it has lots of interesting patterns in the one design.

Last week's "Sewcialites" design is called Noble and designed by one of my favourite designers - Susan Ache (@yardgrl60).

I cut out a couple of quilts in the last week.  "Summer Days" designed by Bonnie Olaveson (Bonnie Cotton Way) and also Rainbow Baby from "Bonnie and Camille's Quilt Bee" book.

I hope to make a Sawtooth Star a day for the next 6 or 7 weeks and then I'll have enough for the quilt top.

Over the last few days I've been making the low volume connecting nine patches for "Nine Patch Waltz" - the circles are starting to become apparent.

Latest Riley Blake Block Challenge block with a couple of non-Chantilly fabrics.

and all the blocks so far together.  I love this fabric and am sorry to be using up the last of so much of it.

Weekend plans changed a bit - Mum and I went to the pictures on Saturday afternoon to see "June Again".  Such a beautiful Australian film starring Noni Hazelhurst, who is wonderful.  Saturday night I saw "Viva Bob Vegas" - a show put together by the fabulous Bob Downe.  What a fun, entertaining show.

Yesterday was a quiet day at home - housework and some sewing.

Photos

One of Jenni and Kurt's close friends, Steph, is a photographer - she took their beautiful wedding photos.  Steph gave them a newborn photo package as a gift for little Vincent's birth.  The photos are stunning.

Last week's "Sewcialites" block was Steadfast designed by Sherri McConnell.

"Vintage Holiday 2" is together and will be quilted in a few weeks.

Last November I cut out another "Strawberry Social" quilt, using lots of reds from my stash.  The quilt top will be finished this week - the blocks come together quickly once the strawberry leaves are made.

A week or so ago I saw this quilt on Instagram and decided I have to make it - my original plan was to make it as a cot quilt for my cousin's daughter, who is having a baby in September (she loves pineapples) but the pineapple without the borders is too big for a cot quilt.

I decided to make a version as per the pattern first (the colour layout is a bit different) using some of my Alison Glass stash (I've had a buy a few more to mix in with these fabrics) before working out how to make it smaller.

On Friday morning I sewed the last of the "An Hourglass a Day" blocks and now each day I'll sew them into a nine patch blocks ready to sew into a quilt top.

Bradley Street

Over the years I've made a few cot-sized "Bradley Street" quilts.  There was a fair bit of the Nerida Hansen May Gibbs fabric and Jocelyn Proust fabric left from the last one so I decided to make a full-size quilt.  This one is roughly 66" square.

I asked Jenny from AngelCake Quilting to use the same Wattle design and it's really lovely with all these Aussie fabrics.

There has been more cutting out happening in The Pink Room - the Bonnie and Camille scrap drawer is almost empty after cutting the pieces into 2-1/2" squares or 1-1/2" x 2-1/2" rectangles

and I've cut out fabrics for another "Stripe Me Lucky".  I have fabrics put aside to cut out another "Strawberry Social" too.

Strawberry Social

"Strawberry Social" is a fun quilt pattern that I've been wanting to make for years but just never got around to it.  During this quarantine time I felt like working on something different to this was it.

I stitched down the binding watching tv on Sunday night (there's been a lot of tv watching lately).

I had no pre-conceived quilting ideas for this one so, again, asked Jenny (AngelCake Quilting) to choose a design.  I love this "Roundabout" design - it has my favourite Orange Peels plus other shapes for interest.

The Riley Blake Designs backing fabric is so sweet - I should have bought more.

I loved making this quilt and may have to make another one day but I'm over red and white quilts for the moment.

Gypsy Girl

"Gypsy Girl" is a quilt I made following a suggestion from a lady who purchased the "Summertime" quilt earlier this year.  I thought it would suit FigTree and Co's "Chantilly" fabrics and it's turned out to be very pretty.

Karen, Quilting on the Coast, used a new design, "Brittany", and it looks lovely on this quilt.

In January 2016 I cut out the fabrics for "Aviatrix Medallion", made two segments of the centre star and promptly packed it all up and put it away in a drawer.

After starting "Gelato", another medallion quilt, I thought about "Aviatrix Medallion" and took it out of the drawer for the first time since January 2016.  I saw why I was so disheartened - this type of star is my nemesis.  I've always found them difficult to make accurately.

I packed away "Gelato" and have been working on "Aviatrix Medallion" since.

This is the first quilt I've made using only solid fabrics.  There are two more borders and then the top will be finished at ~80" square.

On Saturday afternoon I picked up two quilts from Jenny at AngelCake Quilting.  "Strawberry Social"

and "Village".  The quilting designs Jenny chose are lovely.

During May each year Instagram hosts #memadeMay and this year I joined in with one day to spare.  I've had this Echino linen and the "Schoolhouse Tunic" pattern for around 10 years and thought it was about time I sewed it up.  A bit difficult to match the stripes with the splits and pleats in the design.  This will be a lovely top for next Spring.

The start of another week working from home although I did go to the office for a few hours this morning.  Three days' leave this week and I'll be back at work on Friday.
