Double Hourglass

This is the second time I've made a Double Hourglass quilt - the first was 10 years ago.  I love how this FigTree version has turned out.  The colours are a great contrast to the scrappy, low volume background fabrics, while not overpowering the overall look.

The quilting design is called "Maidenhair" - a new design for me.  Quilting was done by Karen at Quilting on the Coast.

The backing is a cute Riley Blake fabric and the binding is from FigTree's "Strawberry Fields Revisited" range.

Last night I finished making the blocks for "Pineapple Party" - hope to start sewing some rows together tonight.  I love the colour-saturated Alison Glass fabrics.

Stitched down the binding on "Stroll" last night.

One more binding to stitch down and I'll be caught up till Karen's next visit - she has two quilts to quilt and I have a two ready to go to another quilter (three when some backing fabric arrives).

Niner

Finally a quilt is finished this year :)  "Niner" designed by Thimble Blossoms and made with loads of FigTree and Company fabrics.

I love the scrappy background fabrics.

The backing fabric is a pretty Brenda Riddle floral that I picked up on special at the local Hobby Sew shop.

Last week's "Sewcialites" block - Abundance designed by Robin Pickens.

Caught up on "Shine On Sampler" blocks.

Month 2
Month 3
Month 4

The extra fabrics for "Pineapple Party" arrived last week

and I was excited to cut out the rest of the blocks.

Started making some blocks on Saturday night and I love how quickly they all come together - the pattern instructions are terrific.  Hope to finish off the blocks tonight and perhaps start sewing them in to rows tomorrow night.

Stitched down the binding on "Double Hourglass" on Sunday night.  Very happy with how it's turned out.

Visited littlest sweetheart and his Mummy and Daddy on Friday and spent some time with Elizabeth, Matt and the family on Saturday - T came to stay Saturday night, which was fun.  Beautiful day on Sunday - Mum and I went for a walk in Shellharbour.  Lots of home games coming up - the basketball schedule is all over the shop this season.  Exciting win for The Hawks last night after a scare during warm up - the hoist holding up the hoop gave way.  Amazingly no-one was hurt.

Many people on Instagram were posting Bitmoji sewing avatars - a bit of fun.

Another Start

"Strawberry Social" comes together so quickly once the leaf sections are made.  Love making quilts from stash.

I bought the pretty backing fabric from Auntie's Quaint Quilts last year and I might have enough left to make little Sweetheart a dress or top next summer.

Karen came to stay on Saturday night and she brought along the four quilts she'd quilted for me over the last few weeks.  I sewed on the bindings earlier this week and now need to find some good tv shows to watch while stitching down the binding.

"Stroll"
"Double Hourglass"
"Niner"
"Flower Girls"

Yesterday I decided to break open my Bonnie and Camille "Shine On" fat quarter bundle and start the "Shine on Sampler" quilt.  There isn't enough fabric in the fq bundle to make the whole quilt, so I'm adding other B&C fabrics here and there, eg the bee block.

Month 1

I'm a couple of months behind so I've cut out the month 2 blocks and hope to make them tonight as well as cut out month 3.

Our newest sweetheart is growing so quickly - he's adorable.

Photos

One of Jenni and Kurt's close friends, Steph, is a photographer - she took their beautiful wedding photos.  Steph gave them a newborn photo package as a gift for little Vincent's birth.  The photos are stunning.

Last week's "Sewcialites" block was Steadfast designed by Sherri McConnell.

"Vintage Holiday 2" is together and will be quilted in a few weeks.

Last November I cut out another "Strawberry Social" quilt, using lots of reds from my stash.  The quilt top will be finished this week - the blocks come together quickly once the strawberry leaves are made.

A week or so ago I saw this quilt on Instagram and decided I have to make it - my original plan was to make it as a cot quilt for my cousin's daughter, who is having a baby in September (she loves pineapples) but the pineapple without the borders is too big for a cot quilt.

I decided to make a version as per the pattern first (the colour layout is a bit different) using some of my Alison Glass stash (I've had a buy a few more to mix in with these fabrics) before working out how to make it smaller.

On Friday morning I sewed the last of the "An Hourglass a Day" blocks and now each day I'll sew them into a nine patch blocks ready to sew into a quilt top.

Little Sweetheart

I met my tiny grandson last Wednesday and it was so lovely to spend so much time with him (and Mummy and Daddy) last week.  Little Vincent is beautiful and his Mummy and Daddy are going very well.

Handmade with Love is together - such a fantastic quick-to-make quilt top.

I finished the blocks for Vintage Holiday 2 last night and then noticed that I'd repeated one fabric for a bauble top/bottom.  That will be changed and then the quilt top can be sewn together.

Last week's Sewcialites block is Blessed designed by Vanessa Goertzen.

Karen, Quilting on the Coast, has been busy quilting some quilts for me.

"Niner" designed by Thimble Blossoms
"Double Hourglass" designed by Cluck Cluck Sew
"Stroll" designed by Thimble Blossoms
"Flower Girl" designed by Thimble Blossoms

These will be home next week and I'll be spending a fair bit of time watching tv and binding.  They will be the first quilts I've finished this year.

What a Huge Weekend

The stacks of hourglass blocks are growing - another 11 or so days and they will be done.  Then I'll start making a nine patch block each day and put the quilt top together.  It's going to be very colourful.

Sewed the last of the Kaleidoscope blocks together last week - waiting for backing to arrive then it can be quilted.  200 different floral fabrics in this quilt.

All the main Nine Patch Waltz blocks are made and have been "snowballed".  I've been waiting for a special Bloc Loc ruler to arrive to make the points that go into the second lot of nine patch blocks and it arrived yesterday, so I'll start those blocks soon.

Last week the new, heavy, solid back door was hung.  Big change from the other door that was there for 30+ years.

Philip built the new front gate on Saturday - looks wonderful.  He had heaps of help from my grandchildren who were there for the day.  Lots of running around keeping up with the 2 year old :)

Last week's Sewcialite block is called "Zest" designed by Brigitte Heitland.

I made little sweetheart a Busy Book for his second birthday.   First saw this on Instagram and then found the instructions on the Bernina website.

Saturday and Sunday nights were long - Jenni was having her baby.  I spent a good part of Saturday night cutting out two Christmas quilts (Handmade with Love and Vintage Holiday 2).  The peppermints are from Handmade with Love.
